Some vibration during spin is normal. Violent shaking, loud thumping or a machine that moves across the floor is not. Left alone, it damages bearings, hoses and the cabinet.
Safe checks to try first
Always switch the machine off at the wall before checking anything inside it.
- 1Check the machine is level using a spirit level. Adjust the feet and tighten the lock nuts.
- 2Make sure all four feet touch the floor.
- 3Remove transit bolts if the machine is new or recently moved.
- 4Avoid washing single heavy items on their own.
Common causes
Uneven floor or feet
The most common cause. The machine rocks on the uneven foot during spin.
Transit bolts still fitted
These lock the drum for transport and must be removed before use.
Worn shock absorbers
They dampen drum movement. When worn, the drum bounces freely.
Broken suspension springs
A snapped spring lets the drum sag and knock.
When to call a technician
- The machine is level but still shakes violently
- You hear banging from inside the cabinet
- The drum sits lower on one side
