Error codes are your machine’s way of telling you what is wrong. They point to the system that has a problem, such as water supply, drainage, door lock or motor. They do not always tell you which part has failed, which is why testing matters.
Below are the most common code groups. For brand-specific codes, see our brand pages for Samsung, LG and Bosch.
Safe checks to try first
Always switch the machine off at the wall before checking anything inside it.
- 1Write down the exact code, including letters and numbers.
- 2Switch the machine off at the wall for five minutes, then restart. Some codes clear after a reset.
- 3Check the water supply, filter and hoses, as many codes relate to these.
- 4Send us the code and your model number on WhatsApp for quick advice.
Common causes
Water supply codes (4C, 4E, IE, E17, F17)
The machine cannot fill. Check the tap, pressure and inlet filter.
Drain codes (5C, 5E, OE, E18, F18)
The machine cannot drain. Check the filter and drain hose.
Door codes (dC, dE, DE, DOOR)
The door lock is not confirming. Check the door is closed and nothing is caught.
Unbalance codes (UB, UE, Ub)
The load is uneven. Redistribute the clothes and try again.
Motor codes (3C, 3E, LE, E21, F21)
A drive system fault. Usually needs a technician.
Heating codes (HC, HE, tE)
A heater or temperature sensor fault.
When to call a technician

Sometimes. A reset clears temporary faults, such as a brief water supply interruption. If the code comes back, the underlying fault needs repair.
